The Present Continuous tense (also called the Present Progressive) is used to talk about actions happening now, around now, or temporary situations.
It is formed with am / is / are + verb-ing.
Examples:
• I am studying now.
• She is watching TV.
• They are not sleeping.
• Are you listening?
We use the Present Simple to talk about regular actions or facts, but the Present Continuous for actions happening at the moment of speaking.
Compare:
• I read books every evening. (Present Simple — habit)
• I am reading a book now. (Present Continuous — action now)
